Our Weekend | 003

As a way of capturing more of the every day, I'm going to start chronicling how we spend our weekends - they may not be the most exciting posts, as we are very much a homey family, but they'll be posts I'll happily look back on.

In many ways this Saturday started out much the same as the last - we woke up to fog and rain and trip into a local town was needed. Waking up we spend a good thirty minutes or so our usual way; the three of us gathered in our bed having a lounge around and laugh. We tend to start most weekends this way and it's a rather nice way to start it, if I do say so myself.

At breakfast time Alexander kept talking about Alvin and the Chipmunks and them singing as me and him had watched the movie the day before - he loves all the chipmunk films - and so there was a lot of noise early on. We don't watch anything so early in the morning, but we did put a couple of the songs on YouTube and he was in his element.

After breakfast we got ourselves dressed and ready before heading off in to town. We had an appointment, so after we'd finished up all we had to do there, we stopped off at Pets at Home and also the supermarket. We actually picked up some goldfish from the pet shop as Nathan has been wanting to set up an outdoor fish tank for a week or so now. The supermarket visit was a quick in and out stop as we were picking up supplies for our little mini movie afternoon that was to follow.

We arrived back home from the shops a little after 1. Nathan and Alexander got to work sorting things out for the fish whilst I popped our pizzas in the oven and took a few photos for my book blog. So we was all just pottering about really. I will say that Alexander had an incident with a jug of water though, and a change of clothes was required!

Close to two o'clock we pulled our pizzas out of the oven and settled ourselves in the living room with a movie - we decided to watch Paddington; a film Nathan and I have wanted to watch, and owned, for while. The film got off to a good start, but after a little way in to it Alexander wasn't all that interested and so we decided we'd leave the film for us to watch later and Alexander carried on having fun with his toys. We had a cheeky little bowl of ice cream each too. Pizza and ice cream - definitely a treat day!

Following on from the film and lunch, the afternoon just kind of got away - I couldn't recall exactly what we were doing the whole time. Just one of those ones with a bit of this and that really. I know we measured up Alexander's room as we're wanting to change his bed over next year but the size and shape of his room means a standard single won't actually fit in there. So we got ourselves some measurements in prep for that; one household job done out of the way.

I know I managed to get in a little blogging time early evening, which was much needed as I have been a little slack of late, opting to watch something or read once toddler has gone to bed as opposed to cracking on with my lengthy to do list. It's good to do that once in a while though, and I do only blog as and when I feel like it - it is a hobby after all.

After I'd tucked Alexander up in to bed the plan was for Nathan and I to finish watching Paddington, however as tends to be the case with  most plans, it didn't come to fruition. Nathan got on with the task of cleaning out the hamsters, and I continued with some blogging bits. The task of cleaning the hamsters took most of the evening up as they were due for a thorough clean and we have a large-ish cage. We did watch a couple of things in the meantime, and also settled down to watch an episode of Once Upon A Time before calling it a night.

I was a lady of luxury Sunday morning and was made breakfast in bed. I wasn't feeling too well, with a headache that had been present from the day before, and so it was a lovely gesture to have my cereal and tea up in bed.

Nathan's parents were due down from Birmingham and they arrived at roughly ten o'clock. After tea and some rest we were off out on a little trip to Cardiff. We had two destinations in our sights - IKEA and also the main shopping centre in Cardiff, St David's. I haven't been to IKEA in years, literally years, and I was quite excited about heading there. One of the main reasons we went was to take a look at the extendable beds for children (because of the aforementioned size issues), but of course IKEA being IKEA, we came away with a fair bit more than we intended to buy! We haven't actually purchased the bed for Alexander yet, we were just looking for the time being as we'll be redoing his room early next year.

As much as I'd have liked to enjoy some lunch at IKEA, we were off to the shopping centre to eat lunch at a place we'd been to before and really enjoyed. The eatery is called spud-u-like, and if you ever find yourself in St David's, you have to check it out because the jacket potatoes are delicious!

After we'd stuffed our bellies - literally, I couldn't have eaten another thing - we browsed a few of the shops in the shopping centre, including The Disney Store, because you can't go somewhere with a Disney store and not go in! I say you can't, but really that's I can't. Oops! We also went in to the little Hamley's that is there and I purchased the first item for Alexander's stocking... Is that a little crazy? Just last week I was moaning about Christmas cards being out, and here I am stocking up on gifts.

We arrived back home a little before five, which was perfect timing as we wanted to be back by five for our online grocery delivery with a time slot of 5-7.

Saying goodbye to Nathan's parents at seven, I got Alexander sorted for bedtime and came back downstairs to enjoy a Krispy Kreme donut with a nice hot cup of tea. I had the new S'mores donut from Krispy Kreme and it was scrummy! In case you hadn't already been able to tell, we do let ourselves enjoy a few treats on the weekend.

Nathan had another busy night ahead of him again, this time with a focus on the garden - cutting the grass, some sorting out of the fish etc - and so I sat myself down to do blogging once again. With two blogs on the go, snatches of time like this are when I try to be most productive as opposed to losing out on family time or time together as a couple.

After catching up on blogging bits and bobs, I spent some time planning in my bullet journal before ending my evening with a nice relax in the bath and with a Roald Dahl book - I'm reading Roald Dahl all September long, and am having a blast doing so!
