Adventures in April (2018)

Starting the month of April, two full weeks were enjoyed together thanks to the Easter holidays. Of course Nathan was working, so those two full weeks were mostly Alexander & I, however the long Easter weekend was a welcome break for us as a whole family. As well as crafts, choccies and family visits, our Easter weekend included us taking part in an Easter bunny trail being held at a local forestry area.

We arrived early, thankfully so, and begun by collecting the instructions - we were to follow the carrot trail, whilst looking for woodland creatures along the way and noting them down on our paper. Midway through the trail, the carrots led us to the Easter bunny who was super fun and gave Alexander a craft to complete, before carrying on with the rest of the trail and concluding at our starting point to collect a yummy treat. I think there was a good mix of engagement within the activity, and all the children seemed to be having a lot of fun. We were glad to have been one of the first arrivals, because as we left an hour or so later, the queue was nearly out the door!

The rest of the Easter holidays were a bit of a mixed bag to be honest, with the weather keeping us indoors a lot of the time. A couple of local walks were enjoyed and a library trip made, however we made the most of our indoor time too with board games, colouring, track building, lots of conversation & laughter, and much reading - of course.

As Alexander returned to nursery mid April, a heatwave passed through and was thoroughly enjoyed by us. We made the most of the sunshine, warmth, and joyful feeling that came with the heatwave. Much time was spent outdoors, including in the garden, and I definitely basked at every possible opportunity. Alexander was in his element during the heatwave as it meant he got to wear shorts & t-shirts for three days straight, and those are his favourite things to wear.

To conclude an already wonderful month, we were treated to seeing Disney on Ice: Worlds of Enchantment by Nathan's parents. The ice skating show was high energy & full of magic, as I'm sure you can imagine. With four different sets - Toy Story 3, The Little Mermaid, Cars and Frozen - and appearances from Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck, there was something for everyone. Alexander absolutely loved the dancing and skating as well as the Frozen finale (which was a little surprising as he has actually never sat through the film), whilst both Nathan & I agreed we enjoyed the Cars skit the most. I know the tour is coming to an end now, as Cardiff was one of the last stops, however if you are a Disney fan & do get a chance to attend a tour in the future then I'd highly recommend.

April was a (surprisingly) busy month for us, with May looking to be more of the relaxed kind - we are heading off on a little break here in Wales at the end of May, so we're all looking forward to that.

A wonderful month of May to you all!

  2. Hi Jade, Esater feels like a distant memory now, but it was only a few weeks ago. It sounds like you made the most of the Easter holidays, even if the weather wasn't the best. The Easter egg trail sounded fun, although the Easter bunny looks quite scary! Lovely photos of Alexander. Hope May is more laid back for you.

    1. Easter does feel a long time ago now, for sure - April was one of those funny months that passed in the blink of eye, but also feels so long ago! Your comments about the Easter bunny did give me a chuckle, Deb.

Thank you - I hope May is being kind to you!
