Day In The Life | 15th August 2017

Each month I try to document at least one day within said month in the form of a day in the life post. To be honest, I did think the month of August would be more of an exciting day given that it is the summer holidays and so we aren't bound by the nursery routine, however it didn't pan out that way. Today I'm sharing a pretty normal day for us, but that's okay as one of the reasons I do these posts is to look back on the day to day, not just document the big things.

7.10am
Morning! I pull myself out of bed and head downstairs for my morning cup of tea. Nathan left for work 30 minutes prior and Alexander is still in bed.

7.30am
I sit down at my laptop and start working on my blogging to do list for the day, including publishing a post, reading other blogs and responding to an email from a blogger whose blog I'll be guest posting on in a couple months time.

8.00am
Almost on the dot, Alexander gets up. He has a complaint about how his hair is long on his neck (to be fair it does need cutting) and also asks if daddy is home, when I inform him that Nathan is at work he responds with 'I'm sad now'. Not the best start to the day for him then.

8.10am
Breakfast - Weetabix for the both of us.

9.15am
Having discussed our days plan over breakfast, followed by getting dressed and feeding the fishes, Alexander and I head off out for the morning. The plan was going to the park followed by a nice long walk, however after falling on his bum whilst at the park Alexander decided he didn't want to go for a long walk but did settle on a shorter walk nearby.

10.15am
Arriving home we decide to have a second breakfast.... Anybody else do second breakfast?! Alexander also asks to watch a film, so I put Up on for him as requested. Whilst he watches the film I get on with house bits like tidying the upstairs rooms, sorting the washing into loads, changing beds and washing the dishes.

11.45am
Alexander and I sit down to do our daily learning. During term time Alexander does attend a school based nursery part time, and during this time we tend to incorporate learning subtly into his day, however during the holidays we've been putting aside set time each day to do specific learning activities. Today we worked on the letter C - going through the alphabet followed by phonics and tracing of the letter C + worked on colours and shapes.

12.45pm
We sit down to lunch: pitta pizzas and fruit. Even after two breakfasts & lunch, Alexander commented on still being a 'very hungry caterpillar' - he eats and eats and eats!

1.15pm
Much fun is had with Duplo. Alexander absolutely loves creating things with building blocks and can spend hours playing with them - today he focussed on vehicles.

2.30pm
Full of imagination, Alexander turns the carpet into sand so that we can dig and build sandcastles. The sand soon turns to snow though, with snowball fights ensuing as well as the two of us making snow angels together. One of my favourite things as a parent is watching the imagination and creativity of my little one grow each and every day.

2.50pm
Done with playing for now, Alexander wants us to sit down and look through his favourite vehicle book.

3.20pm
I make a start on folding some of the washing that I've been rotating in and out of machines all day, with help from my shadow (aka Alexander).

3.45pm
We pop to our local shop for some tin foil, as we ran out at lunch time, but they didn't actually have any.

5.00pm
Having pottered about tidying and prepping food for dinner, we sit down to eat at a little after five.

5.15pm
Alexander sits down to watch another film... Typically he wouldn't watch two things in the one day but a bit of extra TV doesn't hurt every now and again; he opted to watch Sleeping Beauty for the first time. Alexander was absolutely enthralled - he loves princess films.

7.00pm
After a bath, bedtime story and the singing of a nursery rhyme, Alexander is all tucked up in bed. Bedtime has been a bit of drama of late, as well as getting changed in general, but thankfully all went well this evening and our day ended on a good note.

7.15pm
After already getting into my PJs, I settle down for the evening with the remainder of my blogging to do list.

8.30pm
Nathan arrives home from work earlier than usual, after catching a lift home from a colleague instead of having to wait for the bus. We get to talking about our days and he sorts some food out for himself.

9.40pm
Goodnight!
