Little Loves | Big Brother, Rereading and Nursery Begins

I haven't taken part in #LittleLoves since before Christmas, and it's lovely being able to sit down and reflect upon my week... I joined the linky in the last half of 2016, and I'm hoping to take part each week during 2017.

Speaking of Christmas, I hope you all had a lovely festive season, including ringing in the new year!

This past week has been one of adjustment for us. Alexander is now officially a pre-schooler, having started nursery on Tuesday, and getting into the swing of things and finding our new routine has been interesting to say the least. Alexander is loving nursery though; he practically hop, skips and jumps in there!

READ
This first week of 2017 I've been taking part in a book event over on my book blog. Bout of Books is a week long readathon, and is a pretty big deal over in the book blogging community - this is my 3rd time taking part. There is a lot that goes into the bookish event, but I primarily focus on the reading and interaction aspects as opposed to the challenges and giveaway etc.

Thanks to this bookish event I'm on to my 3rd book so far this year, with two of those being rereads. It is my rereading that I'm going to talk about here today.

I first picked up my January reread (I'm challenging myself to reread one title a month in 2017) of Tuesdays With Morrie. The book is a memoir written by a former student of a college professor in the last months of his life. The book itself is a little melancholy, but packed full of wisdom and positive life affirmations. Tuesdays With Morrie is the kind of book that I think everyone should pick up once.

Secondly, I decided to reread The Bookshop Book by Jen Campbell. I literally love this book - I'm talking LOVE. If you're a fellow bookworm and love nothing more than browsing bookshops, reading, and all things bookish, then this is a book for you. The book contains little snippets regarding over 100's of bookshops from around the world - there are some really unique and powerful stories within. The Bookshop Book makes me want to travel the UK exploring all these bookish nooks and crannies.

WATCHED
Big Brother is back on and you'll find me watching nothing but that over the next few weeks. I know reality TV can be seen as a little tacky and cheesy, but such shows are guilty pleasure viewing for me. The combo of All Stars and New Stars is an interesting one, and so far I'm favouring the All Stars.

HEARD
This isn't technically a heard for me directly, but Nathan has really gotten into the Pentatonix over the Christmas period and although I'm not really a music person myself, I've been quite enjoying hearing them in the background on his days off.

MADE
New Years Resolutions.

I've got a couple of personal progression goals for this year, as well one or two for us as a family, however I prefer to think of my new years resolutions as lifestyle commitments / changes. It sounds a bit funny, but I definitely think that helps me stick to them.

WORE
Nothing new to report here... I got a couple of new bits for Christmas, but I haven't pulled them out yet. I was also actually quite happy with myself as I didn't buy a single thing in the Christmas/January sales. Cutting down on unnecessary spending is one of those new lifestyle commitments.

AND LASTLY...
We got our Notice of Marriage this week and it definitely makes getting married feel all the more real. We aren't getting married until the summer, and we're having such a small and simple ceremony, but the next few months are going to full of small wedding bits like this.

I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

  1. Wow how exciting! THe summer's going to come around before we know it. And thank you for the book recommendation - I shall have to keep a look out for the Bookshop Book because bookshops are a serious weakness for me - they just smell so nice and are full of promise!

  2. That readathon sounds great, wish I'd heard about it before now! Right up my street. I know what you mean by not terming things as "resolutions" - that term is just so gimmicky and overused that they automatically become hard to stick to! Also, so exciting about the marriage notice! Looking forward to hearing more as it gets closer x

    1. Bout of Books is run a couple of times a year - it's a lot of fun! Definitely agree regarding the use of 'resolutions'.

      I hope you're having a lovely weekend.

    1. I agree - I think it's great having things to work towards as a family, as well as individually. We are constantly changing and evolving after all, especially with children in tow.

We had a lovely Christmas, thank you! I think summer is going to roll around so quick for us what with so much to do before the August wedding!

      I hope you're having a lovely weekend!

  5. Happy New Year! How exciting that you're getting married this year. Can't wait to hear more as it gets closer. 3 books already this year? I've only read half of one! Work is quite all-consuming during the first week or two back, so I'm hoping that once I get back into routine and work-mode, I will be able to read more! Enjoy your weekend xx

    1. I hope you're able to get in some more reading once things settle down - understandably it's a bit hectic after the Christmas break. To be fair, two of my books were pretty short in length. Taking part in a read-a-thon definitely makes me realise how much extra reading I could get in if I didn't procrastinate / binge watch things on Netflix!

I hope you're having a lovely weekend, and that the new year is treating you well so far.

  7. I hope that Alexander's first week at school goes OK, I'm glad to hear he's enjoying it, that's always a good sign. I used to be glued to Big Brother but I have to confess I've gone off it over the past few years, however, I sometimes find myself drifting back to those types of programmes - they are total guilty pleasures, and don't feel bad if you enjoy them! Pentatonix are great, I've seen several of their covers and their own songs, and they're great, and they get stuck in my head for hours afterwards! Congratulations on getting your Notice of Marriage too, how exciting! Loved this post, lots of nice things. Have a lovely weekend too! - Tasha

Yes! The Pentatonix songs do get stuck in your head. Super catchy, and the talent is pretty amazing.

Thank you! I hope you've been having a wonderful weekend!
