Little Loves | Dahl, Documentaries and Thunderstorms

Little Loves is a weekly linky hosted by Morgana of Coffee, Work, Sleep, Repeat - the idea behind the Little Loves linky is being able to recall and record the little things that have made your week.

READ
As I mentioned briefly in my last 'Little Loves' post, I'm reading Roald Dahl books all throughout the month of September. So far I've completed seven of the books on my TBR for this little challenge of mine, having most recently finished rereading his autobiographical work. Boy: Tales of Childhood and Going Solo are two of my favourite reads by Roald Dahl; from summer holidays on an idyllic island in Norway to flying fighter planes in the RAF during the war, Dahl had some remarkable early years in life and you can see how his life inspired his writing in many ways.

WATCHED
I haven't been watching too much of late. Nathan and I did start watched Once Upon A Time a week or so ago now; we've watched four or five episodes so far, but I definitely think I'm more into the show than Nathan is. More recently I watched a really fascinating documentary on Netflix titled 'Who Took Johnny' - if you like crime/investigative documentaries then it's worth checking out.

HEARD
This past week, whilst some parts of the UK were enjoying the hottest day of the year, here in Wales we had a massive thunder and lightning storm. The day started out pretty nice and then over the span of less than five minutes, the sky was ominous and you'd have thought it was the evening by the darkness in the house, not just gone 10 in the morning! Alexander didn't really know what to make of the thunder and lightning... At first he thought the sound of thunder was rubbish trucks, bless him!

MADE
Not the healthiest of meals, but this week I made corned beef hash. It's very much one of those comfort food dinners, but always goes down a treat in a household. And in typical fashion, I buggared up the opening of the corned beef tin. I don't know why but I always have such trouble opening with those fiddly things provided. We have it very rarely in our house, but corned beef always reminds me of my Nan as she used to make us corned beef sandwiches when younger.

WORE
I pulled out my A/W boots this week... And then the heat and sunshine made a reappearance - typical! Total side note, but when I pulled my boots out of hibernation there was a spider, I repeat spider, crawling over them!! Now I'm checking all my shoes before I put my feet in them.

AND LASTLY...
Last week I actually missed taking part in 'Little Loves', but in it's place I shared '25 Random Facts About Me', so if you feel like checking that out and getting to know me a little better, that would be great!

I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

  3. Roald Dahl was such a great author, I'm really glad that the whole nation has been motivated by his 100th birthday. What a great idea to read his works throughout September.#LittleLoves

    1. I agree with you regarding all that has gone in to his 100th birthday celebration - there have been a couple of big events here in Wales for it also. I've loved revisiting his books so far!

  4. I love Roald Dahl, I'm desperate to buy the collection for Parker. I recently tried to read his short story collection but didn't enjoy it at all. I love a good crime documentary, so thanks for the heads up on that one! I've heard that 'The Night Of' on Sky is also good? My mum used to make us corned beef hash - great dinner!

    1. I bought the children's collection of Dahl's work on The Book People - they have it at such a great price!

I keep hearing about 'The Night Of', and was bummed when I looked in to it because it's a Sky show; I don't own a TV - boo!

Corned beef hash is one of those easy dinners that you know will get eaten - yummy though too.

  5. I've been loving reading the Roald Dahl books with my son, but not considered reading the adult books again until you mentioned it! By the way I love your Sunday photo! x

    1. I'm currently reading the first volume of Dahl's short story collections for adults and I'm really enjoying the writing - I'd recommend checking it out, especially if you enjoy the style of his children's writing.

      Thank you!

  6. We love Roald Dahl, my eldest is reading her way through a collection of his books at school at the moment.
The weather is terribly odd at the moment isn't it? One day I'm in boots and the next in sandals! I've no idea what to wear in the morning as you can guarantee whatever I choose will be wrong come lunchtime! haha xx

  7. Giggled at the spider, it's something I learnt whilst getting my boots out of storage once upon a time so now I always check! Yay for Autumn wardrobes though! :)
