Snapshots | January 2016

Read | For the first time ever I'm working my way through The Chronicles of Narnia series. Although aimed at children of a middle grade age, I'm only just delving in to the realms of Narnia now as an adult. I know some people can be funny about reading books purely aimed at their age range, but I'm not one of them. If a story piques my interest then I read.

Watched | Season 6 of The Good Wife - we don't own a TV so I'm watching this on Netflix, but The Good Wife is probably one of my favourite shows.

Photographed | Not a whole lot in all honesty. The weather has been really treacherous of late, not just here but in various corners of the world, so my camera and I have spent a lot of days tucked up indoors. Wherever you are, I hope you've been staying safe and warm this winter!

Blogged | I returned to blogging in January after the whole month of December off and I'm just about getting back in to the swing of things. I kick started my return with another series of seven pictures (my fourth series here on Captured By Jade) showcasing a number of skyscapes I captured during the month of December.

Enjoyed | The motivation that comes with a new year.

Discovered | Some places to eat in Brighton. In May we're taking a short family trip to the seaside town, and whilst I've visited a number of times before, there are always new places cropping up. We tend to be the kind of people who stop off and eat whatever is nearest / sounds good at the time, but it's nice to have a few specifics in mind.

Planned | As well as blogging here I also have a book blog. I tend to keep the two very separate, but book blogging takes up a lot more time than 'Captured By Jade', which means a lot of organisation is needed to keep on top of it. At the start of the new year I tried a new way of planning for my book blog - I've been bullet journaling. I hadn't known of the premise behind bullet journaling until late last year but loved the idea and knew I wanted to give it a try. I'm enjoying it so much I think I'll be keeping on top of general day to day items via this method in the future.

Explored | The possibility of a few new features here on 'Captured By Jade' once I get back in to the swing of things. My blog predominantly features nature photography, but I would like to work on my indoor photography a bit too. Photographing the great outdoors will always be my passion, which I'm still learning plenty about, but I seriously lack when it comes to photographing indoors. Soon I'll be working on a feature that will hold me accountable, not only to take pictures indoors, but to also progress in that area.

Wondered | Time and time again, when I can get out with my camera without fear of damage from rain.

How did January treat you?

  1. Love that wintry shot - the weather here has been treacherous too - so much rain and the wind speeds have been clocked at nearly 90mph! I'm looking forward to warmer evenings and sunshine come springtime. I love the Narnia book, they're so magical and I'm just like you - if the story captures me, I'm all in! - Tasha

    1. Thank you.

That's some high speeds! We've had some pretty bad wind with the rain too, but it seems like things are calming down a little now, which is nice. I hope the weather picks up for you too.

I love a good magical read.

  2. I have never read the Chronicles of Narnia. It may have something to do with having boys not girls because I can just about recite the entire Harry Potter series in my sleep. You are wrong about winter. It is definitely summer here in Sydney but ironically it is also wet and windy. Very wet and windy - so unusual for Sydney at this time of year.

    1. The Chronicles of Narnia are a staple read for a lot of children here in the UK. I've never read them myself but would love to share them with my son in the future so wanted to give them a read myself. I'm just as much a fan of Harry Potter too - I look forward to sharing that with my son too, although a while till that yet.

Ah, that does sound unusual. I hope the sunshine returns some time soon in Sydney!

  3. Lovely to hear what you've been up to. I haven't read the Chronicles of Narnia either. Are you enjoying it? Fantastic that you'll be in Brighton. When abouts are you coming? Do you want to meet up? We could have a kiddies play date ;) There are so many good restaurants in Brighton, you'll be spoilt for choice! I take photos of my little boy indoors but that's about it, the lighting isn't very good in our house so I prefer taking photos outside. Looking forward to seeing where your photography takes you :)

    1. Yeah, I'm really enjoying the Chronicles of Narnia - get swept up in the magic even as an adult.

We're heading to Brighton in mid May. Ooo, if you're available that would be great! I'll text closer to the time or something and see what we can figure out :-)

That's the issue here - lighting isn't that great in the house either. I mostly just take photos of the little one too. In pursuit of wanting to learn, I need to step outside my comfort zone of nature a little bit though. Although, I do take book photography pictures for my book blog. I want to extend a bit further than that though.

      Thanks, Polly!
