River Watching

When a crisp and clear day was presented to toddler and I, we bundled up and adventured out to one of my son's favourite places - the river. He loves water, be it rain, bath, river, or even drinking water. Like his mummy, he also loves the sound of water, especially flowing water. A trip to the river is something of a regular occurrence for us, but this was actually of our first of the year and an enjoyable little adventure.

Where we live, here in the Valleys, the Ebbw river runs through most of the villages before joining up to another and ultimately flowing in to the Severn Estuary. On this particular day we did intend to make a morning of it and head a couple of towns over to our favourite riverside spot, however after a little while of walking some ominous looking clouds started to loom and I didn't want to be caught in a down pour close to an hour away from home, so ultimately we ended up at a couple of the local bridges and river spots.

Although our original plans were scuppered, my son and I had a great little outing, something we haven't been able to do in a while what the tempestuous weather of late. In fact, this was actually our first proper walk (other than walking to get from A to B) since the start of the new year; with the weather cooperating it was nice being able to seize the opportunity of a spur of the moment adventure.

  1. It is great to get outside, most especially during the winter months, right? I don't think I've ever seen a kid that doesn't like water, although I am sure it happens. I think that would be disaster for me, because I loooove water. I like your photos with the branches the best.

    1. Water, in various formats, is such a fascinating thing - I get why children enjoy it so, I'm the same as you, I love it!

Thank you - the branch picture is a favourite of mine too.
